The tradition of nudism on the island of Rab dates back to the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries,

but certainly the most important event for the development of nudism was the visit of English King Edward VIII and his future wife Wallis Simpson to Rab in August 1936, during his short reign . The city authorities of Rab allowed them to swim naked in the bay of Kandarola, on the Frkanj peninsula. Today, Kandarola is a beautiful and famous nudist beach, which, due to this event, will often be called the English beach. Famous nudist beaches are also located on the Lopar Peninsula - Stolac, Sahara and Ciganka.

CNN declared the island of Rab the best nudist destination in the world.
